http://www.rescuetheanimals.org/Chained, Starved, and Abandoned... Buffalo Gap Dogs Seized! Buffalo Gap fire chief, Dana Sowell, made the difference in life and death for five abandoned dogs at a vacant mobile home in Buffalo Gap. He stopped to put out water for the dogs every day while the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department looked for the owner and filed court papers for a seizure. On August 14, 2007, our Lynn Shults assisted Lt. David Doherty, Gary Kalmus, and Tony Pollock of the Sheriff’s Department in picking up the dogs. Three large dogs were chained out in the heat at a vacant mobile home, and two small dogs were running loose in the yard. All the dogs were friendly, but the three on chains were almost starved to death. When we arrived, the large white Shepherd was chained in the yard where the owner had left a bowl of mud for the dog and that was all. The two other large dogs had entangled their chains, leaving each dog about one foot of free chain. Their water had been left in an old tire.
A small terrier mix dashed about assisting the officers in loading the larger dogs. Despite quite a bit of barking, the chained dogs were very lovable and wanted to kiss everyone. The remaining dog, a small Boxer, was very elusive until officers went to the store and purchased wieners. Our Lynn Shults then coaxed the dog into the waiting stock trailer only to have it sprint away to hide under another mobile home. Officers crawled under the home chasing the dog into a fenced area where Lynn made the catch. The dogs were taken to Dr. Dearing who examined them, finding severe worm infestations in all of them. We are holding the dogs while the legal stuff is done before placing them for adoption. (UPDATE ALL DOGS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED EXCEPT FOR GUS AND RJ PICTURED. THEY ARE HEALTHY AND WAITING TO GO TO NEW HOMES.)
5 Horses and a Donkey Seized in Callahan County After a call from the next door neighbors, we contacted the Callahan County Sheriff’s Department about the starving animals that were living in an old pig lot with no water and no food. The horses were surviving only because the neighbors had placed a bucket over the fence and were watering them and providing grass for them to eat. The owner went weeks at a time without checking on the horses. Deputy Tom Rumfield and Sheriff Eddie Curtis responded to our call by going to court and seizing the animals. The horses included a 14-year-old, bay mare, an albino gelding, a grey mare, a Palamino gelding, and another small gelding that still had a sale barn tag on his tail. The small gelding had been purchased just about two months ago and left to starve! On August 11 the animals were sold at auction. Dr. Rob Harle, who examined the animals for the sheriff’s department, bought Murphy the donkey. Lynn Shults, who investigated the case for Rescue the Animals, SPCA, bought the bay mare. Just three days after the auction, we learned from an area horse dealer that the owner had approached him about buying yet another horse. The dealer, who had followed case, said “______ NO!” Most abusers of children and animals are repeat offenders!

Some of the staff at the school across the street would go over and feed him every day. He was just left there all by him self. He had no food and no water. He was covered in fleas and ticks so bad his hair was falling out.
The city picked up Poppy and called us. After 2 months of heartworm treatment and treatment for kennel cough Poppy is now ready for a home. Poppy was the spokes dog for our garage sale this year. He has made quite a name for him self. Poppy is 135 pound lab.
He is now set and the king of the castle in his new home.

Lucky for Tasha Craig Griffin stepped in and took some action. He took her and turned her over to Rescue The Animals. When she got to us you could see that she had been nearly starved to death and she was missing her eyes.
Tasha is now up to her ideal weight. She has also had the treatment she needed for her eyes. Lucky for Tasha the Young family saw her and fell in love with her. Tasha now lives with Mr. and Mrs. Young and her new brother Brock the boxer.
